Media Release: New exhibition highlights the beauty of the NT’s second Marine Park

Legendary Territory artist and explorer, Paul Arnold, is today releasing a new series of work based on the Limmen Bight region in the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Paul’s daredevil style of photography often involves hanging out the door of a light plane and snapping photos while being buffeted by 150kph winds. The result is an insight into the exceptional beauty of the Limmen Bight coast, where very shallow seas allow stunning images to be taken of the seafloor.

Working in tandem with marine biologist, Jason Fowler from Keep Top End Coasts Healthy, the pair set out to “safely” capture these never seen before images. The result is a spectacular artistic exhibition that highlights one of the NT’s truly unique coastal regions.

“With numerous threats on the rise such as mangrove dieback, industrial pollution and heavy commercial fishing pressure, getting the new marine park right will be essential,” said Mr Arnold.

“I want to ensure my son can come to Limmen Bight in the future and experience the spectacular landscapes, abundant wildlife and great fishing that exists today”.

“With this exhibition, I’m hoping to give all Territorians an insight into this amazing part of the Territory and build the necessary support to protect the area for future generations to enjoy,” he said.

The Limmen Bight Marine Park Management Plan is currently being developed by the NT Government. This is the Territory’s second only marine park and the first to be declared in almost 30 years.
