Submission to the Environment and Communications References Committee Inquiry into Greenwashing

Our submission to the Senate Inquiry into Greenwashing highlights how misleading sustainability claims are being used to justify major fossil fuel developments in the Northern Territory. We expose the rebranding of the Middle Arm gas hub and the promotion of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) as examples of greenwashing that threaten our Top End coasts, mislead the public, and delay real climate action. Our submission calls for strong standards requiring evidence-based environmental claims, a rejection of CCS linked to fossil fuel expansion, an end to public subsidies for greenwashed projects, and the redirection of funding toward genuinely sustainable initiatives. We also urge the Committee to hold a public hearing in Darwin, where these issues are deeply felt.
