Healthy rivers and coasts are central to our shared futures. They support one of the Territory’s most important recreational and economic pursuits - the Top End fishing experience, and provide a source of wonder and awe for divers. They are a tourism magnet – core to our economy, local livelihoods and culture. However, while much of our coast is still in pretty good shape, they are facing growing pressures. The Top End has a unique coastal lifestyle worth protecting.
2020 presents a unique opportunity for action - the Northern Territory has an election in August. This is our chance to ensure all Parties demonstrate leadership when it comes to protecting our unique Top End coasts, marine life and fishing.
At the last NT election, with the help of Territorians like you, we secured a commitment for the Territory’s first ever plan to safeguard our coasts. Together we kept up the pressure and the Government listened.
This was a great first step, but with threats to our marine life on the rise, we need urgent action to put this plan in place. With the Territory election not far away, this is our chance to ensure the plan is funded and implemented so that our marine life and lifestyle are protected.
