Concern for the Roper River - ABC Country Hour

A new study into the potential for irrigated agriculture in the Roper River region, sparks concern.

Jason Fowler, NT Campaign Coordinator for Keep Top End Coasts Healthy chats to hosts of ABC Country hour about the Federal Governments plans to dam the Roper River, and bulldoze more than one million hectares of the catchment for irrigated agriculture.

The Roper River is the third big Territory River recently earmarked to be dammed, joining the Finniss and Adelaide Rivers. At a time when we can see the disastrous impacts of irrigated cotton on the Murray-Darling River, it would be terrible to repeat them on the mighty Roper.

Listen to Jason's segment at 37:30 of the broadcast.

This is the latest in a long list of threats to our Top End coasts and fishing lifestyle. Please sign the petition calling on the Gunner Government to deliver the protection our NT rivers and coasts so desperately need.
